Terms
Plain rules for a free weather service. Last changed 2 October 2026.
What this is
Weather That Doesn't Suck is a free weather service from the Climate Science Division of The Lumber Outlet Group. You can use it on this page, or through an assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude that asks our service for you. It tells you what the weather is doing and what that means for ordinary plans: a run, a hike, a day in the yard.
A forecast is not a promise
- Forecasts are wrong sometimes, and the further ahead they look, the more often.
- If the National Weather Service has issued a warning for where you are, follow it and your local officials before anything we say. We show official alerts as they were written and never rewrite them.
- We do not know the ground you will be on. When we say a trail may be muddy or icy, that is our reasoning from the weather, not a measurement. We do not know whether a trail is open or safe.
- Do not rely on this where a wrong forecast could cost a life: flying, boating, climbing, or deciding whether to leave shelter in a storm. Use the official sources for those.
No warranty
We provide the service as it is. It may be slow, wrong or unavailable, and we may change it or stop it at any time. To the extent the law allows, The Lumber Outlet Group is not responsible for losses that come from relying on it. Nothing here limits a right the law gives you that cannot be limited.
Using it fairly
Everyday use is free. We limit how fast anyone can ask, to protect the free weather services behind us. Do not try to get around the limits, and do not use the service to copy our answers in bulk or to build something that resells them. If you want to build an app on it, or expect heavy use, write to us first.
Credit where it is due
The weather comes from the National Weather Service (NOAA) and Open-Meteo, whose data is licensed CC BY 4.0. Air quality, where it is shown, is from AirNow. Trail lines come from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Sunrise, sunset and the moon are calculated here. Every answer from the service lists its sources. If you repeat our answers, keep that credit with them.
The shop
This site may suggest something from The Lumber Outlet Group shop. The shop has its own terms. Nothing on this site sells anything.
